The European Champion 2019 is...Ilya Shikshin. In the end of a gripping final, he won just by HALF A POINT against Artem Kachanovskyi!
This is Ilya 's 6th title, whereas Artem has still to win one (it is the second time that Artem is close to the European title: in 2010, he ended 2nd (to Ilya !) because of a lesser SOS despite having won their mutual encounter).
By beating Stanislaw Frejlak in the small final, Lukas Podpera took the bronze medail.
In the WE tournament, no one among the top competitors succeeded in remaining unbeaten: five players ended with 4 victories, four 7d Korean amateurs: Song Hong-Suk (1st), Yoon NamGi (3rd), Kim Kibaek (4th), Kang Koo Hong (5th) and one Chinese professional: Zhang Taiyu (1p) (2nd).
Best competitors with 3 victories were Pavol Lisy (2p) (6th) and Ali Jabarin (2p) (7th). Dominik Boviz - who was not in the Mac Mahon super group- ended 8th with 4 wins.
Good sign for the level of the European top players: note the victories by Pavol Lisy and Dominik Boviz against a Chinese Professional (Huang Yan, 5p); and that in some cases European managed to prevail on Korean 7d amateurs!
In total, 11 players got a perfect score: Samuel Teissier (2d, FR), Liu Xinyu (2d, DE), Fumihiro Tsubura (1d, JP), Nicola Flagothier (1k, BE), Nika Petrashevska (3k, UA), Oliver Golly (4k, DE), Shederenko Heorhill (5k, UA), Ivan Prykhodko (8k, UA), Alexandre Terefenko (9k, BE), Chizuko Sento (9k, JP), Ryan Carson (9k, GB), Carlos Collard (15k, FR). Congratulations to them !
Mensa test at European GO Congress
Mensa is an international organisation with more than 140,000 members in 100 countries around the world. The only qualification for membership of Mensa is a high (top 2%) IQ. Mensa is a diverse group of people and with a wide range of interests. An egalitarian group (well, mostly) who treat each other with interest and open friendship. Joining it feels like coming home because differences are a blessing and you don’t have to fit in in order to fit in. It is a place where experts take their time to explain complex theories to people who are interested in learning and understanding, a platform to have stimulating and informed discussions that challenge the way you look at the world and also small talk about all kinds of things. In short, we are a bunch of people enjoying each other’s company. And we're looking forward to welcoming new members into the family!
To give people the possibility to test if they can be part of our family, Mensa Belgium will host a test session during the European GO Congress. This session will be held on Monday 29/07 at18:00. The test will take about 2 hours and will not include a language part. To give all participants a nice and relaxed atmosphere, we limit the test to 20 people. If you want to reserve a place, please send an e-mail with your name and birth date to IQfirstname.lastname@example.org. For the administrative costs we ask 50 euro’s, to be paid in cash before the test begins. An answer if you can join Mensa can be expected within 6 weeks.
If you cannot take the test at the European GO Congress, you can look at the website of your national Mensa if they hold tests.
You will receive a short daily newsletter and round announcement every morning, except if you request not to. You can request to be taken of the subscribers-list at the infodesk or by sending an email to email@example.com with title "Unsubscribe".
