Korea - Europe Friendship Match
We hope to have a Friendship Match between Korean and European this evening. The players from the Korea team will be the current players of Daegu City of the National Baduk League. At this moment (July) the Daegu team is the top ranking team of the League due to 9 wins and 2 losses out of 17 rounds total. We are looking forward to playing with Strong European players.
Today, from 12 to 14 o’clock, there will be a book signing event for Antti Törmänen’s second book, Rational Endgame. The event will take place at the book store Marchand (located on the third floor).
Rational Endgame is a 122-page theory book that covers the basics of modern endgame theory, teaching how to precisely count the profit that a single move makes. The book also includes 20 exercises, five of which are challenging whole-board problems, and an endgame move bestiary that lists common endgame moves and their respective values. The book is priced at 17 euro for the softcover and 27 euro for the hardcover.
The London Go Centre has uploaded a video on YouTube in which Antti demonstrates some of the theory explained in the book – if you are wavering about getting the book, please check the video out! (And while you are at it, please consider subscribing to the London Go Centre YouTube channel! When they get 1,000 subscribers, they’ll get improved streaming rights, which will improve the visibility of the game on YouTube.)
Mensa test at European GO Congress
Mensa is an international organisation with more than 140,000 members in 100 countries around the world. The only qualification for membership of Mensa is a high (top 2%) IQ. Mensa is a diverse group of people and with a wide range of interests. An egalitarian group (well, mostly) who treat each other with interest and open friendship. Joining it feels like coming home because differences are a blessing and you don’t have to fit in in order to fit in. It is a place where experts take their time to explain complex theories to people who are interested in learning and understanding, a platform to have stimulating and informed discussions that challenge the way you look at the world and also small talk about all kinds of things. In short, we are a bunch of people enjoying each other’s company. And we're looking forward to welcoming new members into the family!
To give people the possibility to test if they can be part of our family, Mensa Belgium will host a test session during the European GO Congress. This session will be held on Monday 29/07 at18:00. The test will take about 2 hours and will not include a language part. To give all participants a nice and relaxed atmosphere, we limit the test to 20 people. If you want to reserve a place, please send an e-mail with your name and birth date to IQfirstname.lastname@example.org. For the administrative costs we ask 50 euro’s, to be paid in cash before the test begins. An answer if you can join Mensa can be expected within 6 weeks.
If you cannot take the test at the European GO Congress, you can look at the website of your national Mensa if they hold tests.
You will receive a short daily newsletter and round announcement every morning, except if you request not to. You can request to be taken of the subscribers-list at the infodesk or by sending an email to email@example.com with title "Unsubscribe".
